Subaru Hybrid Tourer Concept

Tokyo Motor Show 2009 will be held for a period of 13 days from October 23 to November 4, 2009. It opens to public from Saturday, October 24. It’s announced that the show theme will be “Fun Driving for Us, Eco Driving for Earth.”

Subaru’s latest prototype model will be displayed to the public for the first time at the upcoming show.  Billed as an environmentally-friendly grand touring car, the Subaru Hybrid Tourer Concept is a four-passenger hybrid vehicle equipped with gullwing doors.

The Subaru Hybrid Tourer Concept will combine several of the company’s latest technologies in one vehicle. The car is powered by the next-generation of Subaru’s engine line, a direct-injection, turbo-charged 2.0-liter, horizontally-opposed Boxer Engine and symmetrical All-Wheel Drive (AWD). The vehicle’s two electric motors (a 10 kW unit at the front and a 20 kW unit in back) are used for low-speed driving and are powered by a Lithium-Ion battery, and for providing a boost when extra acceleration is needed. The front motor also helps pull the car when going uphill.

The automaker also installed its unique driving assist system, EyeSight, which uses stereo camera technology to assist in avoiding collisions.  Presumably or cameras form a 3D image that the system is capable of analyzing.
